jeremy louise largeAre you struggling with your commitment to eating paleo? Is your family sabotaging you by bringing home foods they (and you) love but which are most definitely not part of the paleo template? Are you forcing them to eat paleo, telling yourself it is for their own good, but they are kicking and screaming all around the dinner table?

Jeremy Hendon’s book The World’s Greatest Weight Loss Secret is a quick, easy read – I read it in an afternoon and so can you (I’m the world’s slowest reader).

Something new

I consider myself an expert at bringing the family along on the paleo journey, but Jeremy’s book focuses on one main thing that I hadn’t considered.

So many of us, myself included, have a sense that we are depriving our family by removing their favorite junk, processed, and non-paleo foods from their diet. That feeling is partly derived from our own sense of loss at not being able to eat these types of food any longer and partly because our families kick up a stink about it!

As a result, we often give up.

We give up on consistently providing our families healthy meals, which in turn starts us down the slippery slope of unhealthy eating habits. It becomes too difficult to resist the many foods that we wish we wouldn’t be tempted to eat.

Think laterally

Jeremy neatly turns this around by pointing out that instead of creating chaos and strife with your decision to eat healthier, you can use the situation to strengthen your family relationships which will increase the odds that you will stick with your paleo plan over the long term.

He rightly details that without support, the chances that you will fail are low. So who better to enlist for support than those closest, emotionally and physically, to you?

Jeremy, through his explanations, stories from his own life, and checklists, walks you through how to get your family members to help you rather than sabotage you. And in the process they may join you as you become a role model and they see how eating paleo has benefited you.

This was a neat little book, all focused around one thing: getting support for yourself from your family. So many good things ripple outward from having a healthy person at the center of a group. I can attest to that from personal experience.

Jeremy takes what most of us do and turns it on its head. His step-by-step approach makes it much more likely that not only will you succeed in eating healthier but that you will succeed in getting your family to eat healthier in the process. And that’s what we all want, right?
